“Second Chance Crosses”

In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s  Northeastern  Minnesota’s main industry was lumber.  Many of the local lakes were used as a way to transport logs to the mills.  Some of the logs became water logged and sunk to the bottom of the lake.
After 100 years or more of sitting on the bottom of the lake, some of the logs floated back to the surface. These logs are known as “Deadheads” because only one end of the log is visible and they are a great hazard to water craft.

While living on Garden Lake, near Ely, Pastor Bill pulled nine of these “Deadhead” logs out of the lake. They laid on the shore for over one year and then they were cut into lumber.  It took another 18 months for the lumber to thoroughly dry.
After having a couple of these boards milled to finish   lumber dimensions, Pastor Bill was told that the wood was “useless” because all of it’s strength was gone.  The wood was brittle and could not be used.
One day, Pastor Bill received a spam e-mail from Dennis Adams in North Carolina.  Dennis and his wife, Joan, make small wooden crosses and offer them to churches for vacation bible school, Sunday school, etc.  He has made over 100,000 of these crosses.
Pastor Bill e-mailed Dennis and told him about the wood he had.  Dennis was excited, to say the least.  That launched the start of the “Second Chance Crosses”.
Pastor Bill has sent Dennis almost 500 pounds of wood and he has sent Pastor Bill
over 10,000 wooden crosses.  Dennis has been producing two types of cross necklaces, youth and adult.  Pastor Bill has now included a key chain and a key ring.
Dennis has been producing two types of cross necklaces, youth and adult. Dennis' latest design is a 2" cross that Pastor bill places on a leather lanyard. Pastor Bill has also added a key chain cross, a key ring cross, a Penny cross, a Cross In My pocket and a Travel Mercy Cross.
If you would like one or more of these “Second Chance Crosses” just e-mail Pastor Bill.  There is no charge for the crosses, but a small donation would be appreciated and would go to the “Talent Project.”  Each cross comes in a plastic bag with a card explaining the history of the one hundred year old wood that was used to make these crosses.

There is no charge for the crosses, but any donation would be greatly appreciated and would go to off-set the costs for this ministry. Each cross comes in a plastic.
